Sustainable start-ups in the region

The ERIC project – EntrepreneurshipTrack for Regional Impacton Global Challenges– aims to promote sustainability-oriented start-up projects and pilot projects at regional level.
Target groups:

  • Students of all disciplines
  • Regional partners from science, business, politics and civil society
  • Founding managers

Focal points

Entrepreneurship

We are creating a new entrepreneurial spirit at the university.
To this end, we take up existing teaching content relating to entrepreneurship and expand it to include sustainability topics.
We network with regional players and also offer our students the opportunity to network here.

Innovation

The sustainable transformation can only succeed through innovative solutions.
That is why we place a strong focus on sustainability innovations, both in teaching and in practical implementation – in the context of projects and real start-up projects.

Sustainability

We also see ourselves as a driving force for sustainable thinking and action in the region beyond the boundaries of the university.
We want our work to be visible and enduring at the university and beyond after the end of the project.

Sustainability goals

In line with the United Nations’ 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the ERIC project aims to develop solutions that can have a positive impact on the region’s ecological, economic and social challenges.

We focus in particular on the following six sustainability goals:

  • Goal 3: Health and well-being
  • Goal 4: High-quality education
  • Goal 7: Affordable and clean energy
  • Goal 9: Industry, innovation and infrastructure
  • Goal 11: Sustainable cities and communities
  • Goal 12: Sustainable consumption and production

Eric at a glance

Our partner is the Ingolstadt University of Applied Sciences.
The joint project is scheduled to run for four years (starting in 2022) and is funded by the Bavarian State Ministry of Science and the Arts and supported by the Bavarian entrepreneurship network HOCHSPRUNG.
Together with our partners from science, business, politics and civil society, we want to embark on a learning and start-up journey that comprises the following three stages:

Stage 1 - Raising awareness

Raising awareness (mindset): Raising awareness of the topics of sustainability and entrepreneurship, with the help of:

  • Impact talks: short keynote speeches by internal and external speakers on the topics of sustainability and start-ups
  • Impact Movie Challenge: Development of creative short films by students that are communicated to the public and encourage reflection
  • Lab-of-Change-Festival: Annual multi-day event with discussion rounds, lectures, workshops etc. and the opportunity to exchange ideas with players from the (start-up) and sustainability scene

Stage 2 - Building up knowledge

Knowledge development (teaching): Implementation of a thematically relevant certificate course in teaching at Coburg University of Applied Sciences:

  • Ongoing courses on the focus areas of sustainability and entrepreneurship from the winter semester 2022/23
  • Possibility to obtain the “Sustainable & Digital Entrepreneurship” certificate in two variants

Stage 3 - Implementation

Implementation (impact): Application of what has been learned from phases 1 and 2 in practice:

  • Lab-of-Change projects: We support students in developing and implementing solutions to current sustainability issues for our regional partners.
  • Start-up coaching: Together with the faculties’ start-up officers, we want to support students and graduates who want to start their own sustainability-oriented business or work independently as freelancers.
  • Start-up competitions: Together with the initiators of regional start-up competitions, we want to increasingly promote sustainable start-up projects.
