Short vita
Dr. Claudia Lohrenscheit is Professor of International Social Work and Human Rights at the Coburg University of Applied Sciences.
She is an educational scientist and completed her doctorate with a thesis on human rights education in South Africa.
From 2003-2012, she was a research associate at the German Institute for Human Rights, where she headed the Human Rights Education Department with a focus on advocacy work and professional training and counseling for various target groups (police, politics and NGOs).
Previously, she was deputy head of the Center for Educational Studies in the North-South Network at the Carl von Ossietzky University of Oldenburg.
In this context, she coordinated exchange and training programs for teachers from the Eastern Cape Province, South Africa and Lower Saxony who work with disadvantaged children and young people.
She lived and worked in Cape Town and Gqeberha/Port Elizabeth, South Africa.
Her main areas of work and research are: Human rights education, protection against discrimination, inclusion, children’s rights, gender and women’s rights. Claudia Lohrenscheit is Prof. for International Social Work and Human Rights at the University of Applied Sciences Coburg, Germany.
She is educational scientist and intercultural pedagogue and completed her Ph.D..
on Human Rights Education in South Africa.
Before teaching at Coburg University, she has been the head of the Department for Human Rights Education at the German Institute for Human Rights (National Human Rights Institution).
Earlier on, she was Co-Leader of the Centre for Educational Studies in the North and South at the University of Oldenburg, where she co-ordinated exchange- and education programs for teachers of disadvantaged learners and communities in South Africa and Germany.
Her current projects focus on issues like children’s rights, women’s rights, Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Intersexual Rights (LGBTI) as well as human rights education.
