About me

The microbiologist Prof. Dr. habil. Matthias Noll and his team work on microbial communities in both technical and natural habitats. These include food, biofilms, sewage treatment and biogas plants, water pipe systems, ticks, human skin, microbial wood decomposition in various land use properties and many other habitats. In addition, the antimicrobial efficacy of essential oils, wood preservatives, disinfectants and associated microbial adaptation are investigated.

Prof. Noll is part of the “One Health” research focus at Coburg University of Applied Sciences. In order to improve antimicrobial efficacy in the applications, the researchers use sensor technology and microfluidics to analyze surface insertion and modification, for example. Prof. Noll and his team have molecular biological and cultivation-based experience with pathogenic and apathogenic bacteria, archaea, fungi and yeasts. Prof. Noll is co-founder of the Institute for Bioanalytics, which has laboratories with modern measurement methods.
