Smart Sensing, Automation and Analytics
Presentation of the research focus
The research focus “Smart Sensing, Automation and Analytics” concentrates on the development of innovative intelligent sensors as well as the integrated processing, analysis and communication of sensor data.
Our university’s scientific expertise in this area covers a broad spectrum: from the simulation-based design of sensors and measurement systems to the development of the necessary hardware and electronics to the creation of methods and algorithms for sensor data fusion and the intelligent evaluation of measurement data using AI technologies such as deep learning and machine learning.
An important research goal is the real-time recognition of patterns in complex measurement data.
On this basis, prediction models are developed that forecast the behavior of systems and plants and enable flexible adaptation to changing conditions.
Research also focuses on the automation of production processes and the development and optimization of robotic solutions.
Human-machine interfaces (HMIs), recognition algorithms and environment models for autonomous driving and industrial automation are also being researched.
In the field of sensor technology, the research focus is particularly strong in the development of innovative measurement solutions for recording, monitoring and controlling physical, chemical and biological variables in industrial processes, such as fill level, flow rate or media composition.
Other areas of research include environmental measurement technology, the monitoring of buildings and structural health monitoring.
The focus here is on non-invasive acoustic, optical and electromagnetic measurement methods as well as wireless sensor solutions.
