Profile of the degree program
The demands on midwives have become more complex in recent years. This paradigm shift has opened up new perspectives on their profession for midwives. An evidence-based and salutogenetic approach is important here. With the dual study program in Midwifery Science, our practice partners and we prepare you for the profession in a clinical and non-clinical setting. During the seven-semester course, we focus on three guiding principles.
Today, midwives are increasingly required to continuously reflect on the latest findings from science and research and integrate them into their everyday work.
Our guiding principles
"Thinking and acting scientifically"
You will acquire knowledge of midwifery and related sciences and use this as a basis for shaping the care of women and families.
"Healthy living as a woman and family":
By learning about approaches to health promotion in the life phases of family planning, pregnancy, birth, postpartum and breastfeeding, you will be able to think and act holistically.
"Being a midwife"
We attach great importance to imparting specialist knowledge in an application-oriented way.
And it is important to us that you consciously take a look at yourself in your role as a midwife.

Practice during studies
The practical components are integrated into the course of study and are secured each semester as practical modules with content and organizationally coordinated study content.
This guarantees that you get to know different settings in practice.
Practical supervisors support you in your practical work in order to repeat activities you have learned in theory.
You will be directly prepared for their practical activities in the protected “Skills Lab”.
There will also be a reflection session after each practical assignment to discuss and, if necessary, process what you have experienced.
Dual study/practice partner
The combination of science and intensive practice in healthcare facilities forms the basis of the degree program.
A practical training contract with one of our practice partners is therefore a prerequisite for the course.
The contract also guarantees employment subject to social insurance contributions with a training salary.

Job & Career
Midwifery is perhaps the oldest profession in the world. And a profession with future prospects. The classic fields of employment are:
- in obstetrics departments of hospitals
- in midwifery practices
- in birth centers
- as a freelance midwife
The academic qualification will open up further professional fields for graduates in the future. For example, in the public healthcare system and in counseling centers, but also in management positions in hospitals. In addition, the degree course opens up opportunities to become involved in research and pursue an academic career.
Do another master's degree!
After successfully completing the Bachelor’s degree, good graduates have the opportunity to gain further qualifications on the Master’s degree course in Health Promotion.
