Registration and enrollment in general

Where do I have to register?

All necessary steps are carried out online directly via the online portal of Coburg University of Applied Sciences An additional application via hochschulstart.de or the Studienstiftung für Hochschulzulassung is not necessary for any degree program.

What are the deadlines for registration?

You can find the respective deadlines on the respective degree program pages or directly on the homepage of the online application portal.
These apply to both new high school graduates (graduating this year) and old high school graduates (graduating earlier).

What documents does Coburg University of Applied Sciences need from me?

We require a valid university entrance qualification, curriculum vitae and any other documents resulting from the information you provide in the online portal.
These are, for example, documents relating to previous studies, proof of professional experience, etc. Which documents you need to submit and by which deadline is shown in the online portal via the document upload.

Do I also have to send the documents by post?

No!
The enrollment procedure is exclusively online.
All required documents are uploaded to the online portal.

Can I apply for several degree programs?

Yes.
As a rule, you will receive several admissions if you submit several applications.
You can then apply for enrollment for your final desired degree program.

I have yet to receive my university entrance qualification - can I still apply?

Please register in the online portal by the deadline even if you do not yet have your certificate.
The deadline for the submission / subsequent submission of certificates is listed in the online portal (if applicable, separately for the respective degree program).
Please contact us if you are unable to meet this deadline due to the certificate being issued later.
The following applies to Master’s degree programs: The final grade of the first university degree must be uploaded in the form of an official confirmation no later than 6 weeks after the start of the semester.

What types of higher education entrance qualification (HZB) does Coburg University of Applied Sciences accept?

For Bachelor’s degree programs we accept:

  • General higher education entrance qualification (Abitur certificate)
  • Subject-specific university entrance qualification
  • Advanced technical college entrance qualification (Fachabitur)
  • Fachgebundene Fachhochschulreife (only for subject-related degree programs)

Whether your higher education entrance qualification is valid for Bavaria is usually noted on your certificate.
You will find the area of validity of the certificate in the small print.
If in doubt, our Student Affairs Department will check your certificate in advance.

I don't have a high school diploma. Can I still study?

Yes, this is possible.
We have compiled all the information on the conditions under which admission to study is possible under Studying without a high school diploma.

I am abroad during the application phase - can I still apply?

Yes.
The application process is exclusively online.
It is important that all required documents are available digitally and can be uploaded online.
However, please note the deadlines and any time differences.
If you are interested in a design degree program, you may have to be in Coburg for the aptitude test.

Do I need a pre-study internship?

No, none of our degree programs require a pre-study internship before starting your studies.
However, the following degree programs have a basic internship lasting several weeks.
It can be an advantage to complete part of this in advance.

What are old and new high school graduates? Are there different application deadlines for them?

“Old school leavers” have obtained their university entrance qualification in previous years.
“New school leavers” take their Abitur in the current registration period.
The same deadlines apply to both.
As new high school graduates often receive their certificate later, they must upload it as soon as they receive it.

What is an advance registrant?

Pre-admission applicants are applicants from the previous year who have already received a letter of admission, but for certain reasons are not (or cannot) begin their studies immediately.
A distinction is made between

  • Cooperative study program (study with practice partner): Prior admission after the end of the first year of training
  • Passed aptitude test for all degree programs with aptitude test: Prior admission within the scope of the validity of the aptitude test

These applicants must apply again in any case.
In the online application portal, you will be asked if you have been admitted in advance.
If this is the case, the letter of admission from the previous year or, in the case of dual studies, proof of the first year of training in the company must be uploaded.

Where and how can I find out the status of my application/registration?

You can see the status of your application process in the “Application progress” section of the online portal.
You can log back in here at any time; we will also inform you of any changes by email.

Allocation of study places / aptitude test

Are there any degree programs with a numerus clausus (NC) or am I guaranteed a place?

The Abitur grade does not play a role in the allocation of study places for all Bachelor’s degree courses.
All you have to do is apply in the correct form and on time and provide proof of a certificate valid for Bavaria – then you are guaranteed a place.
For design courses, however, you must also pass the aptitude test (the A-level grade is also irrelevant here).
For the Midwifery Science course, you will need a training contract with one of our practice partners.
Some Master’s degree programs require a certain final grade in the first university degree.

For which degree programs do I have to take an aptitude test?

An aptitude test must be passed for the following Bachelor’s degree programs:

How long is the aptitude test valid for?

This depends on the degree program: Bachelor Integrated Product Design: Validity: 3 years Bachelor Interior Design: Validity: 3 years Bachelor Architecture: Validity: 5 years This means that you can apply to Coburg University of Applied Sciences as a pre-admission student within the validity period and must upload the letter of admission from the year in which you passed the aptitude test.

Is there a catch-up option for the aptitude test if I am abroad or ill, for example?

No, you only have the opportunity to take part in our aptitude test once a year.
You will receive specific information on dates, procedure and technical requirements after registering via our online portal and in the further course of the aptitude test via the respective coordinators of the degree programs.

Do I have to submit a portfolio with work samples with my application?

A “classic” portfolio is not required for any Bachelor’s degree program.
Only for the Master’s degree course in Design are further documents (e.g. portfolio) to be submitted with the application.
