International applicants
Where do I have to apply?
You can apply directly to Coburg University of Applied Sciences if…
- You have completed your Abitur at a German school abroad or
- You have completed your Abitur at a European School in Germany or
- You have attended a preparatory college in Germany and completed the Feststellungsprüfung (FSP)
- You have already completed your first degree and would like to study in our English-language Master’s program AIMS
You don’t have to have your certificates evaluated until…
- You have completed your degree at a school abroad and would like to apply for a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree program
The assessment is carried out by uni-assist for our university. If you have certificate evaluations from other institutions, you can submit these as an alternative. We will then check them. For the following degree programs, it is mandatory to submit a VPD from uni-assist stating the final grade:
- Autonomous Driving (Master of Engineering)
- Electrical Engineering and Information Technology (Master of Engineering)
- Social Work (Master of Arts)
- Design (Master of Arts)
Please allow about four to six weeks for the assessment. Submit your documents early. A fee is payable for processing by uni-assit, which you must transfer directly to uni-asset.

Certificate evaluation by uni-assist
Submit an application to uni-assist e.V. for the preparation of preliminary assessment documentation. This is possible throughout the year.
- Register with uni-assist and fill out the personal form.
- Select “Search course offer”.
- Enter the semester, the degree you are aiming for (Bachelor or Master) and the Coburg University of Applied Sciences.
- Do not enter a subject area, but leave the characters -. The system then automatically selects the “All subjects” option
This is important because the assessment for Coburg University of Applied Sciences is not carried out for individual degree programs! - Further information on the preliminary review documentation (VPD).
You must enclose the following with your application to uni-assist e.V:
- a curriculum vitae in tabular form
- your foreign certificates (and a translation if the documents are not issued in German or English)
- a copy of your identity card or passport

IB Diploma
Graduates of the IB Diploma (International Baccalaureate) must have their degree evaluated by uni-assist before applying (see point Certificate evaluation by uni-assist).
Applicants who have not yet completed the IB Diploma (International Baccalaureate) should contact the Student Affairs Department for further information on the application process.
What happens next?
If you have been granted direct university admission, you can register at Coburg University of Applied Sciences. You can apply within the regular deadlines for Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees. If you have not yet received the assessment, you can still submit your application. Please note the deadlines for uploading documents. If the assessment shows that you need to attend a preparatory college first, you cannot start your studies yet. Please apply directly to the Studienkolleg, which is also located in Coburg.
How are study places allocated to international applicants?
For degree programs with open admissions, you will receive a place if you apply in the correct form and within the deadline and submit a direct university admission letter for the desired degree program. For degree programs with an aptitude test, you must – like all other applicants – also pass the aptitude test. Please note that you can only take the aptitude test at a fixed date and place. German language certificates
Language certificates at level B2 according to the CEFR
By the time you enrol, you must have passed one of the following language examinations at level B2 according to the CEFR in order to be admitted to a German-language degree course at Coburg University of Applied Sciences.
Language certificates at level B2 according to the CEFR
- German Language Diploma of the Standing Conference of the Ministers of Education and Cultural Affairs – second level(DSD II)
- German language examination for university admission for foreign applicants (at least DSH-1)
- Test Deutsch als Fremdsprache für ausländische Studienbewerber (Test DaF) with a result of at least TDN 3 in all four sections (information on www.testdaf.de)
- The certificate of the examination to determine the aptitude of foreign applicants to study at universities in the Federal Republic of Germany (assessment test)
- Goethe certificates at least level B2
- The “German Language Test” of the Munich Language and Interpreting Institute (SDI)
- At least telc German B2 or C1 University
- ÖSD certificate at least level B2
- Proof of German language skills that are recognized by bilateral agreements or other agreements concluded by the KMK or HRK as sufficient language skills for admission to university studies (§ 8 Exempting examinations and qualifications – according to KMK Framework Regulations, p. 5, paragraph 2)
- Holders of a school-leaving qualification that corresponds to a German university entrance qualification
- Official confirmation of German as the language of instruction in a Bachelor’s degree program (transcript of records or confirmation signed and stamped by the university)
- A degree in German studies
The Studienkolleg Coburg does not currently offer a preparatory course for the German Language Test for University Entrance (DSH course).
English language certificates
By the time you enrol, you must provide proof of one of the following language certificates at English B2 level in order to be admitted to an English-language degree course at Coburg University of Applied Sciences.

- Cambridge English ESOL Certificate in Upper-Intermediate English(B2 FIRST) (Grade A, B, C – Minimum overall score – 160)
- IELTS – International English Language Testing System (Minimum overall score – 5.5)
- Pearson English Language Test – PTE Academic (Minimum overall score – 59)
- TOEFL – Test of English as a Foreign Language (iBT) (Minimum overall score – 72)
- UNIcert® / NULTE (Level II / B2)
- telc English B2 University (B2)
- Oxford Test of English Advanced (English Advanced – Minimum overall score – 111)
- Certificate of higher education entrance qualification or subject-restricted higher education entrance qualification (explicit reference to level B2 in the certificate or proof of at least a grade of “4” in English)
- Official confirmation of English as the language of instruction in a Bachelor’s degree program (transcript of records or confirmation signed and stamped by the university)
Fee compass
From the summer semester 2025, Coburg University of Applied Sciences will charge fees for international students from non-EU countries who enrol on a new degree program.
