Prerequisites

Prospective students without a high school diploma can apply for a Bachelor’s degree program if they have one of the following qualifications:

Professionally qualified persons with a vocational training examination

Professionally qualified persons with a further vocational training examination are not bound to specific subjects when choosing a course of study.
They are free to choose their field of study, i.e. they have so-called general university access.
The following are required for the application:

  • Certificate of successful completion of the master craftsman’s examination in accordance with the provisions of the Vocational Training Act or the Crafts Code or
  • Certificate of successful completion of a vocational training examination recognized by the State Ministry of Education and Cultural Affairs as equivalent to the master craftsman’s examination in accordance with the provisions of the Vocational Training Act or the Crafts Code, or
  • Certificate of passing the final examination of a public or state-recognized technical college or technical academy and additionally
  • a consultation with the university’s student advisory service

Professionally qualified persons with relevant vocational training plus professional experience

Professionally qualified persons with relevant vocational training plus professional experience can study in a field related to their vocational training and practice.
The respective university is responsible for determining the subject-relatedness.
You will then receive a so-called subject-related university entrance qualification.
The following are required for the application:

  • Successful completion of at least two years of vocational training in a field related to the intended course of study in accordance with the provisions of the Vocational Training Act, the Crafts Code, federal or state law and
  • at least three years of subsequent full-time professional experience in a field related to the intended degree program and additionally
  • a consultation with the university’s student advisory service

Professionally qualified students with relevant vocational training plus professional experience complete the first two semesters on a trial basis.
The probationary course is passed if at least 30 ECTS have been achieved.

Which university entrance qualification do I have?

The Department of Student Affairs at Coburg University of Applied Sciences will check your documents.
It will also use these to determine whether you have general or subject-specific university admission.
Contact: by e-mail studienangelegenheiten@hs-coburg.de or telephone 09561-317-246

The consultation

You make an appointment with the Student Advisory Service.
Following the interview, you will receive written proof.
Please upload this with your application in the online application portal.
You can upload the proof until the end of the official application period.
If you have attended a counselling interview at another Bavarian university, the certificate will be recognized if it is for the same or a closely related degree program.

Deviating requirements

The trial study program for subject-specific university admission

Those with a subject-specific university entrance qualification are initially admitted “conditionally”.
Unrestricted admission can only be granted after passing a trial course.
The purpose of the trial course is to determine whether the student is suitable for the intended course of study on the basis of his/her personality, previous knowledge, intellectual abilities and motivation.
In all Bachelor’s degree courses, the trial study period comprises the first two semesters and is deemed to have been passed if at least 30 credit points (ECTS) have been achieved by the end of the second semester.
You then automatically become a regular student.
Students who do not pass the trial course will be exmatriculated.
A repetition in the same or a closely related Bachelor’s degree program is not permitted.
This also applies if the probationary studies at another university in the Free State of Bavaria have not been passed.
